Prince Harry, the son of Brit Royal Prince Charles and Princess Diana, is scheduled to play a charity polo match May 4 in Wellington, Gossip Extra learned exclusively.
The match is to take place on the grounds of Valiente Farm, a private polo ranch on 50th Street near the International Polo Club Palm Beach.
Sources close to the organizers tell Gossip Extra that Buckingham Palace is supposed to announce the news this afternoon. Update: The announcement confirming Prince Harry would be coming to Wellington was issued late Wednesday.
It’s been 31 years since a British Royal of major importance — Harry, after all, is the brother of Prince William, who’s favored to be the next king — has visited Wellington. In 1985 Harry’s dad, Prince Charles, played a few matches at the now-destroyed stadium at Palm Beach Polo as his lovely bride, Princess Diana, looked on.
The money raised at the event will got to Harry’s pet charity, Sentebale, which supports African children and teens suffering from AIDS.
Harry, 31, will be in the area for the Invictus Games, Olympic games for wounded war veterans from all over the world. The games are taking place in and around Orlando in early May, and Harry, a captain in the British Army, will be leading the British team.
