“The Walking Dead” Bike Around Key West (Video)

By FloridaKeysNewsBureau for SouthFloridaReporter.com, Oct. 27, 2015 – KEY WEST, Fla. — Several thousand costumed zombies, sometimes called “the walking dead,” abandoned pedestrian power for bicycles during the annual Zombie Bike Ride early Sunday evening in Key West.

Some 8,500 participants, ranging from seniors to families with kids and dogs, biked along the beaches and streets of the island city wearing dead-white face paint, gory tattered garments in “classic” zombie fashion, and accessories that ranged from tutus to top hats.

Standouts in the ride included an eerie zombie wedding party, a devilish red-garbed “rock star” propelled by a biking “roadie” and a “chef” in a cart offering zombie-style meals on wheels.

The spooky cyclists traveled a route along Key West’s Atlantic Ocean shore and into a section of picturesque Old Town — culminating in the ZombieFest Party on famed Duval Street.

Faith Based Events

The Zombie Bike Ride coincided with the first weekend of Key West’s annual Fantasy Fest costuming and masking festival that continues through Sunday, Nov. 1.
