South Florida will feel sweltering heat on Monday until afternoon storms develop. After a warm and mostly dry start, Monday features a mix of hot sun, clouds, and humidity. Afternoon storms will pop up along the sea breeze in the afternoon, with most of the activity in the western suburbs and in the interior. Highs on Monday will be in the low 90s at the coast and the mid 90s inland. But it will feel much hotter, so keep hydrated and stay out of the sun.
Tuesday will bring a mix of sun and clouds, followed by afternoon storms in spots. Tuesday’s highs will be in the low 90s.
Wednesday will feature more of the same — a sun-and-cloud mix and some afternoon storms. Wednesday’s highs will be in the low 90s.
Thursday will be another typical August day, with sun, clouds, and afternoon storms. Thursday’s highs will be in the low 90s.
Friday will be a bit drier as some Saharan dust moves in, so look for hazy sun and maybe a stray afternoon storm. Friday’s highs will be in the low 90s.
In the tropics, Tropical Storm Gert is not a threat to land. At 5 am Monday, Gert was located near 29.7 North, 72.2 West, and was moving north-northwest at 9 miles per hour. Maximum sustained winds were 45 miles per hour.
In the eastern Atlantic, we’re watching a complex area of disturbed weather south of the Cape Verde Islands. This feature has a medium chance of developing into a depression during the next 5 days.
