Our lifestyle plays a huge role in determining our long-term health status. There are some factors we can’t control, but we should focus on the ones we can. How we live our life dictates how we feel both physically and mentally. If you want to kick your health game up a notch, we’re here to help. We provide our best tips on how to live a healthier lifestyle.

Get Enough Sleep

The average sleep cycle lasts around 90 minutes, so you should try to work your sleep schedule around that time frame. Four and a half hours of sleep is three cycles, six hours is four cycles, and so on. You may find you get a better quality of sleep and feel more rested if you wake up at the end of a sleep cycle, as opposed to in the middle of one. Comfort in bed also plays a role. Do yourself a favor, and invest in a mattress and pillows that will work for you and not against you.

Improve Your Air Quality

Fresh air is essential to our survival, so it’s unsettling to think about how often we pollute the air around us. In our homes, dust and mold can irritate allergies, which creates an uncomfortable living experience. Make sure the filters in your home are changed, the floors are mopped and vacuumed regularly, and you allow the air in your home to circulate by opening windows and doors.

Eat Fresh Foods

Those snacks in the grocery store wrapped in plastic and on sale for a dollar seem like a good deal, but places can sell them cheap for a reason—the ingredients inside are anything but good for you. These convenient foods are packed with artificial ingredients and sugar that don’t do us any favors when it comes to our health. Buy fresh ingredients instead, and try to prepare your own meals filled with the recommended amount of daily nutrients. This will also help give your energy levels a boost.

Take Walks

Those handy watches everyone wears to track their steps are a great addition to the world of technology. We can now see how much we’ve walked in a day at only a glance, and this visual confirmation is an excellent motivator. 10,000 steps a day is the recommended rule of thumb, and we suggest you try to match that. If possible, try to take a few brisk walks throughout the day to really get your body working.

Stay Social

It’s more than tempting at times to spend several days at home alone, and the occasional mental recharge can be a great thing; however, it’s important we take the time to create a social calendar and build personal relationships. Good company can ward off feelings of depression, and friends can distract you and allow you to get things off your chest. You can also hear someone else’s perspective on things you struggle with.
