By RedBroward.com, Special to SouthFloridaReporter.com, July 22, 2015 – UPDATE: A Clerk of Courts insider claims some rank-and-file employees were furloughed with a 2% pay cut. Also, some new hires may have been terminated.
Thanks to social media, Broward residents can witness the cost of political battle between State lawmakers and Howard Forman, the Broward Clerk of Courts. A prominent local attorney posted pictures of the poorly made signs on her Facebook page. The Clerks of Court Operations Corp. is angry with the Florida House of Representatives over a budget dispute.
Last month, the Clerks of Court Operations Corp. executive council, the clerks’ statewide budgeting arm, voted to make official the across-the-board reductions. In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, Broward Clerk of Courts Howard Forman says layoffs, furloughs and office-hour reductions are all on the table. “The Senate was pretty much on our side and the House wasn’t,” said Forman, who faces a $2 million deficit. “And the House won.”
One of the signs posted in the Broward County Courthouse references the case made by the Clerks of Court Operations Corp. The sign says, as of July 20th, hours of operation are 8:00am to 3:30pm.
The second sign says the foreclosure help desk is closed.
So, instead of cutting salaries, Howard Forman and Iris Siple decided Broward folks facing foreclosure are out of luck.
Good luck trying to pay those parking tickets.
The politicians play politics. They cry poorhouse. But they don’t cut salaries for bigwigs.
No, they cut services for the average man and woman.
