Turn Unwanted Jewelry Into Cash Donations for Nonprofits Supporting California Wildfire Victims (Video)

As wildfires continue to ravage California’s coast and the greater Los Angeles area, communities across the country are looking for meaningful ways to contribute to relief efforts. Jewelry for Good, a unique nonprofit organization dedicated to turning gold jewelry & sterling silver donations into tax-deductible cash donations, is offering a unique opportunity for people to help: by donating unused gold jewelry and sterling silver flatware, bowls, and trays.

Jewelry for Good is accepting donations of gold jewelry – whether it be out of style, broken, or never liked it anyway — and sterling silver items, including flatware, bowls, and trays. A check for the full net value after processing of these donated metals will be directed to organizations on the frontlines of California wildfire recovery, including the World Central Kitchen and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.

Faith Based Events

“We are devastated by the destruction caused by these wildfires, and our hearts go out to those affected by this tragedy,” said Laine Shakerdge, executive director of Jewelry for Good. “While many want to help, not everyone has the financial means to contribute. However, most people don’t realize they may have valuable gold jewelry or sterling silver items tucked away in drawers or cabinets that can be transformed into real, impactful cash support for wildfire relief efforts. Jewelry for Good provides a simple, tangible way for anyone to make a difference.”

Jewelry for Good is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to raising funds for essential causes through the donation of gold and sterling silver jewelry, as well as sterling silver flatware, bowls and trays. Since its inception, the organization has raised over $100,000 for critical initiatives, including Alzheimer’s research, ovarian cancer research, food banks, and animal welfare.

Here’s how it works: supporters can fill out a simple form requesting a prepaid FedEx label, and send in their unwanted jewelry & sterling items. Jewelry for Good will evaluate the items, send them to a refinery, and donate 100% of the net proceeds after processing to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and World Central Kitchen. Donors receive a tax receipt for the full value of their contribution, while nonprofits assisting victims on the ground directly benefit from the cash donation.

“Turning jewelry into charitable donations is a win-win: donors get to declutter and make a difference without writing a check, while wildfire victims receive immediate support,” said Shakerdge.
