Top Down As Steve Hammes Tests The 2016 MX-5 Miata Club Edition

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club Edition

The all-new Miata embodies the joy and excitement of driving; a beacon of purist freedom in a sea of bloated people movers. And in the middle of the 3 available 2016 MX-5 trim levels is the Club edition.

Priced from $29,420, the Club model elevates the Miata’s sporting factor with 17” wheels fitted with Bridgestone Potenza max performance summer-use tires, Bilstein shocks, front air dam and rear lip spoiler, and a limited-slip differential and shock tower brace on models equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission.  A 6-speed automatic is optional.  Want more?  For an added $3,400, the Brembo/BBS Package adds lightweight, forged 17” BBS wheels, Brembo front brakes with red-painted calipers at all 4 wheels, a rear bumper skirt and side sill extensions.

At only 2,332 pounds, the Club runs with the same engine as the rest of the MX-5 lineup; a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder generating 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, now sitting lower and farther back in the bay for a lower center of gravity and quicker handling response.  No matter which gearbox you choose, the MX-5 is rated at 30mpg in combined driving on premium gas.

Inside, there are piano black seat back bars, MAZDA CONNECT infotainment system with 7” display, HD radio, 2 USB ports, smart key entry, a BOSE 9-speaker audio system with headrest mounted speakers and sat radio.
