The Harlem Globetrotters Began Playing In 1926 Chicago. They Didn’t Play In Harlem Until 1968

  • 1926 – The Harlem Globetrotters made their first shot in 1926 and have been leading innovators in the world of sports and entertainment since.
  • 1927 – Harlem Globetrotters play their first-ever road game, in Hinckley, Illinois.
  • 1985 – Lynette Woodard was the first woman to play for the team in 1985. So far nine women have played for the team
  • 1929 – They were called the Savoy Big Five when they were formed in 1926 and were renamed the Harlem Globetrotters in 1929.
  • 2016 – Established by the Harlem Globetrotters in 2016, the day has become a showcase for incredible athletic prowess and ingenuity.

  • 2020 – The Globetrotters embark on their Pushing the Limits World Tour, marking 94 years of touring.
  • Their origin was in Chicago and not in Harlem. The team did not play in Harlem until 1968.
  • Harlem Globetrotters got their name from their Manager who was a white Jewish immigrant
  • They were the first African American players to play for the NBA
  • This special day is dedicated to the art of the trick shot, especially in basketball, where athletes worldwide demonstrate their most inventive and jaw-dropping feats.
  • The Globetrotters are proud inductees of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and have entertained hundreds of millions of fans, including presidents, popes, kings, and queens over nine thrilling decades.

  •  TNT Lister became the first woman to join, and since then other female players have joined the team.
  • The first African American player to play for the NBA was a Harlem Globetrotter.
