Florida State Representative Cary Pigman was arrested overnight and charged with aggravated DUI after he was pulled over by a state trooper on the Turnpike near Port St. Lucie.

State and St. Lucie County authorities have been dragging their feet in releasing information — Pigman’s mugshot has already been wiped out of the county jail’s webstie — but a source close to the Avon Park Republican says he was pulled over into a rest stop area early this morning.

Despite the fact the legislature is currently in its once-a-year session, the 58-year-old Pigman was driving erratically 400 miles south from the state capitol and traveling away from the destination he thought he was headed to.

He has yet to comment on the incident.

UPDATE — According to the probable cause affidavit obtained by Gossip Extra at 2:30 p.m., a motorist called 911 to report a Jeep with a state legislature license plate driving erratically southbound on the turnpike. Troopers observed the car swerving all over the road before he was pulled over. Pigman appeared to be lost. He told troopers he was headed to Okeechobee County yet was driving south toward Palm Beach County. Troopers actually found an opened bottle of wine on the front passenger seat. When asked if he had anything to drink, Pigman said “no.”
