WELLINGTON — The Wellington polo club founded by imprisoned millionaire John Goodman was to be sold to the United States Polo Association today, Gossip Extra has learned exclusively — but this morning Goodman’s family reneged on a deal reached last week!

In an agreement that was due to be made public this afternoon, according to two insiders, the USPA had won a sealed bid to buy the International Polo Club Palm Beach for $42.5 million.

The USPA even got a letter of intent from the administrators of Goodman’s trust confirming it’d won the bid.

But an email sent to the USPA’s headquarters in Lake Worth about 10 a.m. reads that the trust will not go forward with the sale!

Faith Based Events

“Obviously, the family is negotiating with someone else,” one of the sources said.

The polo governing body thought it won the club’s facilities, including the grandstands, restaurants, pool, tennis courts and more than 90 acres of land.

While no USPA official has been returning calls, it’s clear the Association wanted to preserve what has become THE winter home of the sport of kings.

When Goodman opened the facility in 2002, big-time polo was dying in Wellington as its original stadium at the Palm Beach Polo & Country Club started falling apart.
