Seminole Gaming, the gaming operation of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, today announced the elimination of plastic straws at its six Florida casinos by September 1, 2018.  Durable, earth-friendly drinking straws will be available to customers on request.  In addition, as of mid-August, only “to go” bags made of paper will be available at its Florida casinos.

News of the elimination of plastic straws was also announced this week by Hard Rock International, which is owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida.  Two of Seminole Gaming’s six Florida casinos operate under the Hard Rock brand.  They are the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood.  Others are the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, the Seminole Classic Casino in Hollywood, The Seminole Casino Immokalee, east of Naples, and the Seminole Casino Brighton, on the northwest side of Lake Okeechobee.

“Seminole Gaming has a long history of sustainability programs, and we are pleased to add more earth-friendly straws and to go bags to the list,” said Tracy Bradford, Senior Vice President of Purchasing.  “Seminole Gaming restaurants already utilize reusable, recyclable or eco-friendly to go containers.  As the gaming operation of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, Seminole Gaming is proud to help make a difference in conscientious sustainability practices – it’s the right thing to do.”

Bradford said Seminole Gaming also recycles carboard and wood pallets and is researching other earth-friendly options for its casinos.  She said additional sustainability programs will be announced soon.
