NASA Looking For An Alien Protection Officer (Video)

It’s not exactly Tommy Lee Jones‘ job in Men In Black, but NASA just posted a job opening for a planetary protection officer.

That’s right — they’re looking for someone to keep alien contaminants off the earth and earth contaminants off other planets during NASA missions.

So, it’s a pretty science-y job for without fighting too many aliens. Here’s part of the job description:

“Planetary protection is concerned with the avoidance of organic-constituent and biological contamination in human and robotic space exploration. NASA maintains policies for planetary protection applicable to all space flight missions that may intentionally or unintentionally carry Earth organisms and organic constituents to the planets or other solar system bodies, and any mission employing spacecraft, which are intended to return to Earth and its biosphere with samples from extraterrestrial targets of exploration.”

The job, posted on USAJobs.gov, comes with a salary of $124,406 to $187,000 per year for a three year appointment.

The Space Coast position is one of only two full-time alien protection positions in the world. The other is with the European Space Agency.

It’s unclear if successful candidates will be issued neutralizers and the cool sunglasses that protect one from its memory erasing effects.
