Getting started on a Monday morning is tough enough for some people, but for a Miami-Dade Police Lieutenant it began with a rescue.

Moments after starting his unmarked police car at 7 AM, he knew the purring noise was not the engine but the cries of a kitten trapped within the grille of his Dodge Avenger.

The Lieutenant drove the car straight to Miami-Dade’s police fleet services department where technicians went to work. After an hour of diligently taking the grille apart, the black kitten was rescued.

They named the kitten Pikachu, which unless you’ve been hidding too, is one of the Pokemon Go characters. Pikachu hung out with officers at Miami-Dade Police Department Headquarters Building where she was fed and given water.

Around 3 o’clock Monday afternoon she was taken to Miami-Dade Animal Services Pet Adoption and Protection Center where she was checked out and given a clean bill of health. Pikachu is now available for adoption.

Anyone who wants to adopt Pikachu or any other cat or kitten can visit the shelter at 3599 NW 79th Ave. in Doral or call 31
