By Al Sunshine, SouthFloridaReporter.com, Consumer Investigator, Dec. 15, 2015 – If you’re in the market for a used car, you may want to check out a recent report on one of the biggest “pre-owned” dealerships in the country allegedly selling used cars with un-repaired, open defects. In one case, a Nevada family reportedly in one of their vehicles had a serious accident when the drive shaft reportedly failed as they were cruising down a highway.
Per “The Safety Institute”
“Today, MASSPIRG Education Fund and Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety Foundation (CARS) released research showing how used car dealers can exploit a regulatory gap that allows them to sell vehicles with open safety recalls. Sean Kane, President of The Safety Institute supported MASSPIRG and CARS in their effort to illuminate the issue by purchasing a 2012 Jeep with open recalls for faulty wiring, a brake problem and an intermittent stalling condition from CarMax in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. The report found that more than 17 percent of cars offered for sale at the CarMax North Attleboro dealership – 42 out of 243 – had open recalls, even though repairs for many of these safety defects were readily available – at no cost to CarMax.” Click here for the research report.
