South Florida will see lots of tropical rain from a disturbance moving over inland just to our north on Tuesday. While much of the activity was just offshore and in the northwestern Bahamas Tuesday morning, look for showers and storms throughout the day here, with periods of heavy rain, dangerous lightning, and gusty winds. Some localized flooding is possible in spots. A moderate risk of dangerous rip currents continues at Broward beaches. Highs will be in the upper 80s on a cloudy and humid day.
The disturbance will move into the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday, but passing showers and storms will linger in South Florida, especially in the Naples area. Wednesday’s highs will be near 90 degrees.
Thursday will bring some early east coast showers, highs near 90 degrees, and some afternoon storms, especially in the far western suburbs of Miami-Dade and Broward, the interior, and along the Gulf coast.
Friday will see our rain chances decrease quite a bit, with a few afternoon storms in spots and highs near 90 degrees. More of the same is in Saturday’s forecast, with a spotty passing storm in some locations and highs around the 90 degree mark.
In the tropics, that area of disturbed weather that’s affecting us has a low chance of developing into a depression over the next 5 days.
Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Ian formed on Monday in the central Atlantic. At 5 am Tuesday, Ian was located near 24.0 North, 51.7 West, nearly a thousand miles from Bermuda. Ian was moving north-northwest at 9 miles per hour and had maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour. It is not a threat to land.
And a wave just off the African coast has a low chance of developing over the next 5 days.
