Broward Circuit Judge John Contini should receive a public reprimand for trying to help public defenders in cases, a panel of the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission has recommended.
Contini sent an Assistant Public Defender assigned to his courtroom an e-mail suggesting the way he should “perfect” his motions. He did not share the e-mail with prosecutors.
After prosecutors found out about the e-mail, they moved to remove Contini from criminal cases. Contini then “lashed out” in court at prosecutors who sought his recusal from cases.
A complaint was filed with the JQC.
