It is no secret that the Corvid-19 virus has placed smaller businesses under enormous pressure – and that includes businesses in Miami, Florida. Although multinationals may have some cushion against reduced customer numbers and supply chain (as well as distribution) disruptions, the same cannot be said for local businesses.
Larger transnational companies are diversified – and that means that they have sources of turnover that are spread across the globe, if Coronavirus restrictions affect those businesses in one locality that is not to say they will have the same effect in another – this smooths out the financial impact of any downturn.
These large corporations can (by and large) soldier on. A smaller, local business (think of a doctor’s rooms, dentists, electricians, and plumbers and even junk removal companies) feel the impact of reduced customer numbers almost immediately.
These businesses are at the foundation of communities – and residents of Miami should be making every effort to help these operations weather the current financial storm that is the result of the pandemic.
But what can consumers do to help them out – and retain the unique ambiance of Miami?
Firstly, there is the matter of how you source your goods. Gigantic online sales portals such as Amazon and big box stores have almost everything that a consumer might desire – all in one place. However, is it absolutely necessary to source your pool inflatables or barbecue tools from retailers like this?
Of course, you would save a few pennies – but is it not worth the effort to visit a smaller, independently owned local store, browse and exchange pleasantries with the staff – and make your purchases there.
Eating out has long been a mainstay of Miami life – and it’s no wonder. The city has some of the best dining destinations in the United States. However, many of these eateries are going out of business. They simply cannot survive by running a delivery service, curbside or otherwise.
Here’s another way that you can help a struggling local business survive – and you can do it from the comfort of your own home – write a five-star review. If you use the services of a local business (and you should be), be generous with your rating – and if they have done a truly exceptional job make an effort to recognize that with an online review – we tend to only leave negative reviews, perhaps it’s time to change that mindset.
Another great way of ensuring that local businesses enjoy increased numbers of customers is to purchase gift cards. They make the perfect presents for that special occasion. Pay extra-special attention to those most vulnerable to the downturn in customer numbers – such photographers, junk removal companies or caterers (who make much of their money at weddings and other large functions which are now being delayed).
Junk removal companies need support – and their services are especially valuable during this trying time. For many people working from home has become a reality – and your environment dictates how productive you will be.
Declutter your home, get rid of all that junk and enjoy a space that will take your work to the next level. It’s also true that for many people their homes have become a haven from an increasingly stressful world, the more space that you have at home, the more you (and your family) will enjoy the environment.
