Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is coming under fire for a leaked audio recording of the candidate talking about Bernie Sanders supporters. The conversation is from February when Clinton was still battling Sanders for the Democratic presidential nomination. The two have since agreed to bury the hatchet as Sanders now campaigns for Hillary.
Clinton is headed to Charlotte today, where she will likely speak about the tense situation in the city. It will also be interesting to hear what the candidate has to say about the leaked Trump tax returns obtained by the New York Times.
Washington Post: Republicans latch onto audio of Clinton critiquing Sanders’s ‘revolution,’ but senator’s team pushes back
Donald Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee have latched onto a newly hacked audio recording of Hillary Clinton critiquing Bernie Sanders’s campaign as a way to disrupt Clinton’s outreach to reluctant young voters. But aides to Sanders’s campaign have pushed back, criticizing how the audio has been covered and defending what Clinton said.
The recording, first reported and uploaded by the Washington Free Beacon, was taken at a Feb. 16 fundraiser for Clinton at the McLean, Va., home of two diplomats. One week earlier, Sanders had crushed Clinton in the biggest landslide in the history of the New Hampshire primary; four days later, Clinton would head off Sanders with a victory in Nevada’s caucuses. Halfway into the recorded part of the fundraiser, an unidentified woman asked Clinton why young voters were stampeding toward Sanders.
“Young people seem to be listening to promises on both sides, and I’m worried that you can’t get from here to there without going incrementally,” she said.
Politico: Hillary’s high stakes mission to Charlotte
Hillary Clinton desperately needed to come to Charlotte.
She tried too soon, planning a trip last week on the advice of faith leaders, to stand with a community in crisis after another shooting of an unarmed black man by a police officer – only to be rebuffed by city officials who said Charlotte needed time to cool down.
But the week-long postponement might prove a benefit to the surging Clinton — who has seen a once sturdy lead in this diverse, divided upper south bellwether vanish as whites rally to Trump.
When she lands there Sunday, Clinton will arrive with the same mission – convincing young African Americans in North Carolina that she shares their anger and will prioritize the policing reforms they demand – but with an even starker contrast with Donald Trump.

Hillary Clinton expressed sympathy earlier this year for Bernie Sanders supporters who “are living in their parents’ basement” who were attracted to his “false promise” because they are “children of the Great Recession.”
Clinton’s 3:20 a.m. tweet links to an essay on her plan to expand the ranks of AmeriCorps from 75,000 to 250,000, increase the size of the Peace Corps and create a new National Service Reserve with 5 million members who would be available to mobilize in the event of a natural disaster or some other large calamity.
