Debby Strengthening, Watches and Warnings Dropped in South Florida; Debby Heads To North Florida

Tropical Storm Debby has strengthened on Sunday as it moves northward, away from South Florida.  At 5 pm Sunday, Debby was located about 120 miles west of Tampa and 125 miles southwest of Cedar Key.  Maximum sustained winds were 65 miles per hour, but Debby is forecast to become a hurricane Sunday night.  Debby was moving north at 12 miles per hour late Sunday afternoon.  Landfall is expected along Florida’s Big Bend on Monday.

The tropical storm warning for the Gulf Coast south of Bonita Beach has been dropped, as has the tropical storm warning for the Dry Tortugas.  The tropical storm warning for the Lower Keys ended earlier on Sunday.

Faith Based Events

The coastal flood advisory for the Gulf Coast remains in effect, and South Florida could still see localized flooding with additional rainfall.

She holds a PhD in history when her experience with Hurricane Andrew ultimately led her to earn a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. Donna spent 15 years at WFOR-TV (CBS4 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale), where she worked as a weather producer with hurricane experts Bryan Norcross and David Bernard. She also produced hurricane specials and weather-related features and news coverage, as well as serving as pool TV producer at the National Hurricane Center during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Donna also served as a researcher on NOAA's Atlantic Hurricane Database Reanalysis Project. Donna specializes in Florida's hurricane history.
