So you have that friend who’s all about adventure, who lives for the thrill and has probably seen all the Indiana Jones movies. Now you need to find a gift for an upcoming birthday or special occasion, or maybe you just want to show that you care. You want to get something that’s just right. You’ve been racking your brain, but unfortunately, you’re not outdoorsy, so you keep coming up short. Well, rack your brain no more. This list of great gifts for the outdoor enthusiast won’t break the bank. Here goes:
Get a survival kit
An outdoor survival gear kit comes equipped with the essentials that the outdoorsman will need to survive in the wild. You can get a complete set at survival stores if you don’t know what makes up a survival kit. You can also make your gift more personal by putting together a suitable kit.
For a proper survival kit you’ll need:
- Ropes: Important for climbing.
- A compass: Should be pocket-sized.
- A knife: Nothing big and fancy. It should, however, be sharp.
- A multi-tool: Useful for eating, opening canned goods, etc.
- A flashlight with extra batteries: Because it gets dark at night.
- A water-filtration straw: Clean water may not always be available.
- A first aid kit
- A disposable phone
- A flint for starting fires
- A whistle: Outdoorsmen may need to call out for help.
- A blanket: To keep warm on cold nights (which is every night).
- A foldable tent: For shelter.
- A water bottle: Or another type of portable water container to be used as a reservoir.
- A bandanna: Because it looks cool.
Get them a new mountain bike
Not all outdoor enthusiasts are survivalists. Some of them love free climbing, biking, sky diving or other daredevil activities that adventure-seekers enjoy. If your friend isn’t the mountain-bike type you shouldn’t get one, you should find out what his or her preferred outdoor activity is. It may be that instead of bicycles they prefer motorcycles. In that case, buying gifts like a new helmet, or motorcycle tires will be more appreciated.
A journal
National trails and the outdoors is a way for hikers and campers to commune with nature. As they do this, they may have thoughts, stories, insights, or just important notes they need to put down. This is where a journal comes in handy. They may also need to write about their journey and experience. This is one gift that could live on beyond the outdoors.
A solar-powered charger
Of course, there’s no electricity in the woods or on the mountain trail, and cell phone batteries die — even those with 4000mah. Solar power is the only source of energy for the outdoorsman deep in the woods who needs to charge a lamp and other electricals. And while you could always get a lamp that runs on saltwater, this is much easier and efficient because solar energy is available all day every day.
A waterproof backpack
This is on our list because your outdoorsy friends aren’t going to carry all your gifts in their hands when they’re out in the wild. They’ll need a backpack. A suitable backpack should be light, big enough to carry the essentials plus a little more, and waterproof.
Now you have some great ideas on what to get the people in your life who love the outdoors. And if you’re an outdoor person, you might as well treat yourself to a gift, too….just cause.
