Tavares, Florida, is located in Lake County, in central Florida. It is about 40 miles northwest of Orlando and serves as the county seat of Lake County. Known as “America’s Seaplane City,” Tavares is situated along Lake Dora and offers a variety of outdoor activities, including boating, fishing, and seaplane tours.
The city is part of the Mount Dora–Tavares–Eustis area, often referred to as “Florida’s Lake County Triangle.”

Tavares has two main thoroughfares
Route 441 west from Tavares goes to Leesburg and is accessible from the I-75 Route 44 exit at The Villages. US 441 also travels southeast to Orlando, some 40 miles away.

Why is Tavares Known as America’s Seaplane City
Just looking at a map and you can see why Tavares has the reputation of being a seaplane city. Four large bodies of water for landing these flying pontoons are within a couple of miles.
A block or two from the county courthouse is the center of seaplane activity with docks, fuel and restaurants to support the seaport.
