You know that little pocket within the pocket of your jeans? The one, odd little rectangular pocket, that gets in the way if you’re putting your hand into your pocket?
Did you ever wonder what it is for?
You would agree that the pocket is certainly too small to keep coins and was around before the age of smart phones.
However, In a Quora forum, jean and textile experts sought to answer the conundrum.
According to a blog post on their website, User Renata Janoskova cited Levi Strauss, iconic jeans brand, as having the answer to the mystery pocket.
She said the pocket is a “watch pocket”, small enough to keep a pocket watch.
Ms Janoskova explained that Levis introduced the pockets to cater for cowboys pocket watches.
“It’s a watch pocket. Back in the 1800s, cowboys used to wear their watches on chains and kept them in their waistcosts. To keep them from getting broken, Levis introduced this small pocket where they could keep their watch,” she mentioned.
The watch can be fastened to the belt loop and then tucked inside the ‘mystery’ pocket to be accessed easily.
