On Monday, June 15th, Chef Allen Susser will join forces with Chef Sam Gorenstein of My Ceviche for a special sustainable seafood dinner at The Café at Books & Books at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. The exclusive evening will benefit the Monterey Bay Aquarium and The Fishing Experience.
Diners are in for a night of delicious seafood and environmental education as Chef Allen and Chef Sam serve five unique courses featuring sustainably caught local seafood. Allen, a long-time member of the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch Blue Ribbon Task Force, wants to educate South Florida foodies about ocean conservation through gourmet dining. “The Seafood Watch Blue Ribbon Task Force is a nation-wide culinary community that fights to enforce ideas about seafood sustainability. We want to ensure that there is a future for healthy oceans by informing guests about eating responsibly caught fish,” he says. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a public, non-profit aquarium located in Monterey, California, with a mission to inspire conservation of the ocean.
Marine environments are currently in poor condition due to overfishing and environmental destruction. Fisheries are able to recover or stabilize their populations when responsible management (responsible fishing practices) and regulations are in place. To ensure the utmost responsible fishing environment for the seafood presented at this exceptional dinner, Chef Allen has teamed up with Captain Mike Puller to acquire the product featured during this special night. Captain Mike is a fishing veteran and founder of The Fishing Experience, a fishing program dedicated to educate and empower South Florida’s youth to learn the art of fishing. Susser and Captain Mike will go on a fishing trip on captain’s charter boat “Lisa L” off of Key Biscayne, the day before the dinner to guarantee that the freshest and most sustainable seafood is on offer.
The festivities get underway at 7PM at the communal table located inside the café. The menu will be a collaboration between Susser and Gorenstein. Chef Allen and Captain Mike will educate attendees between courses; all five courses will be while paired with delicious wines. The evening is priced at $60 per person, exclusive of tax and gratuity. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Captain Mike’s foundation, The Fishing Experience. Seating is limited and reservations are required at (786) 405-1745 or Delphine@booksandbooks.com.
