Ocean BreezeSouth Florida’s Wednesday will feature sun, clouds, and an ocean breeze. Look for the possibility of a stray shower along with the clouds on the breeze. That breeze will keep a moderate risk of dangerous rip currents in place at the Atlantic beaches through Friday. Highs will be near 80 degrees on Wednesday.

Friday will bring sun, clouds, a quick shower in spots, and highs around 80 degrees for dedicated shoppers.

Look for a mix of sun, clouds, and a few passing showers in spots on Saturday, along with highs near 80 degrees.

Sunday features sun, clouds, maybe a shower, and highs in the upper 70s.

In the tropics, Otto is now a hurricane. At 4 am Wednesday, it was located near 10.9 North, 80.4 West, and had maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour. Hurricane Otto was moving west-northwest at 5 miles per hour. After moving over Nicaragua and Costa Rica on Thursday into early Friday, it is forecast to emerge in the eastern Pacific as a tropical storm.

Donna Thomas has studied hurricanes for two decades. She holds a PhD in history when her experience with Hurricane Andrew ultimately led her to earn a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. Donna spent 15 years at WFOR-TV (CBS4 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale), where she worked as a weather producer with hurricane experts Bryan Norcross and David Bernard. She also produced hurricane specials and weather-related features and news coverage, as well as serving as pool TV producer at the National Hurricane Center during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Donna also served as a researcher on NOAA's Atlantic Hurricane Database Reanalysis Project. Donna specializes in Florida's hurricane history.
