Today is the last day of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season, and it’s quiet in the tropics now. But this will be a season that Floridians remember for a long time, with the devastation caused by category 4 Hurricane Ian and a late-season category 1 Hurricane Nicole. Puerto Rico saw serious flooding and major power outages from category 1 Hurricane Fiona. Statistically, the 2022 season was about average, with 14 named storms, 8 hurricanes, and 2 major hurricanes. But it’s never a question of how many storms; it’s all about where they go. And it’s a painful reminder that Florida is right in the middle of “Hurricane Alley.”
