State Senator Smith: On Ballot By Petition In Just Five Days

By Buddy Nevins, BrowardBeat.com, for SouthFloridaReporter.com, Sept. 15, 2015 – State Sen. Chris Smith has collected 1,500 signatures to get his name on the ballot for Broward County Commission.

That is roughly 400 more than was needed to fulfill the requirements and avoid a filing fee, according to Smith.  He announced on Twitter that he gathered the signatures in five days.

Smith, D-Fort Lauderdale, is facing incumbent County Commissioner Dale Holness for the Broward County Commission District 9 in Central Broward.  The race already has divided the African-American and Caribbean-American political community, as two of the best known black office holders duke it out in next year’s Democratic primary.
