South Florida Under Tropical Storm Warnings From TS Gordon

Tropical Storm Gordon has formed from what was Potential Tropical Cyclone # 7.  We now have tropical storm warnings from Golden Beach (near the Miami-Dade / Broward line) to Bonita Beach on the Gulf coast.  The tropical storm warning also includes the Florida Keys from Ocean Reef westward to Craig Key.
Expect 2 to 4 inches of rainfall overall in South Florida, with isolated areas possibly receiving up to 8 inches of rain from Gordon.  We also have the threat of isolated tornadoes on Labor Day as Gordon moves through the area.
At 8 am Monday, Gordon was centered near 25.1 North, 80.7 West, or about 20 miles from Key Largo.  Maximum sustained winds were 45 miles per hour, and Gordon was moving west-northwest at 17 miles per hour.  A tropical storm warning remains in place from the Florida / Alabama line to just east of Morgan City, Louisiana.  Gordon is expected to make landfall in the warning area on Tuesday.

Donna spent 15 years at WFOR-TV (CBS4 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale), where she worked as a weather producer with hurricane experts Bryan Norcross and David Bernard. She also produced hurricane specials and weather-related features and news coverage, as well as serving as pool TV producer at the National Hurricane Center during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Donna also served as a researcher on NOAA's Atlantic Hurricane Database Reanalysis Project. Donna specializes in Florida's hurricane history.
