September Sun and Showers

By Donna Thomas, SouthFloridaReporter.com Meteorologist, Sept 1, 2015 – South Florida will see sun and a few showers as September begins. On Tuesday, look for some early coastal showers, highs in the summerlike low 90s, and the chance of a few afternoon showers and storms in the western suburbs. Wednesday and Thursday will be similar, with quick morning showers, highs in the low 90s, and a few afternoon storms along the sea breeze. We’ll see more of a southerly flow from Friday through the weekend, so look for a greater chance of passing showers and afternoon storms. Highs will be in the low 90s on Friday, but more clouds this weekend will keep highs around the 90 degree mark on Saturday and Sunday.

In the tropics, Tropical Storm Fred has weakened and is moving away from the Cape Verde Islands. At 5 am Tuesday, Fred was located near 18.0 North, 26.1 West, and was moving west-northwest at 12 miles per hour. Maximum sustained winds were 65 miles per hour, but Fred will gradually weaken in the central Atlantic. It should become a remnant low by the weekend without posing any further threat to land.
