Among rows and rows of colorful piñatas at Dulceria Puebla in Albuquerque, one stands out — black crepe paper is used to make the suit, and yellow paper makes up the unmistakable head of hair.
“We give the customers what they want,” said Valerie Fernandez, an employee at the store.
Fernandez said stocking the Donald Trump piñatas was not their idea — she said customers started asking for them months ago.
“You fill him full of candy and you beat him up with a stick,” said store customer Javier Lopez. “I mean what else can be clearer?”
Piñatas are popular at Hispanic celebrations, but Trump has been anything but popular among some Hispanics after making controversial comments about immigrants.
