By Jose Lambiet, GossipExtra.com, for SouthFloridaReporter.com, Dec. 7, 2015 – PALM BEACH — It was as strange and twisted as old Palm Beach itself: The organizers of last night’s Lady in Red Gala at Mar-a-Lago tried to auction two furs during the fancy $750-a-plate dinner — a fundraiser FOR ANIMAL WELFARE.
The irony didn’t escape funnyman Howie Mandel, who was drafted to help with the auction after his half-hour standup routine.
“Come on,” Mandel told the 500-plus gathered in the grand ballroom of Donald Trump‘s private club, “anybody bidding? Why isn’t anybody bidding on the skin taken from the back of animals to help other animals?”
The black-tie gala was thrown by The Lois Pope Life Foundation, a non-profit run by Lois Pope, the multi-millionaire heiress of the National Enquirer fortune.
Pope’s galas used to raise money for a monument to World War II veterans in Washington, D.C.
