It’s Girlfriends Day – How Will You Celebrate?

girlfriends day

National Girlfriends Day is recognized annually on August 1, as girlfriends get together around the United States and celebrate their special bond of friendship.

Girlfriends can often be our sisters or mothers, classmates or co-workers. These dearest friends who are here for us.  They enjoy spending time together, laughing and sharing secrets.  They seek us out in times of need, and we seek each other out in times of celebration. When it’s time for a glass of wine or a long walk, girlfriends are there.

The term girlfriend first came into use in 1863 as a way to describe a woman’s female friend in youth. It was not until the 1920s when the word started being used as a way to describe a person’s female romantic partner.

Friendship is one of the most special connections in life.

National Girlfriends Day was created by the former social networking site, www.sisterwoman.com.

On August 1, 2004, Mistress Susan created a special day just for girl friends to express gratitude to one another — think Girls Night Out. Since September 22, 2005, Chase’s Calendar of Events has listed August 1st as Girlfriends’ Day.
