FTC Wins Compensation For Victims Of Wired Money Fraud

fraud

If you or someone you know has been a victim of fraud where they wired money via Western Union’s money transfer system between January 1, 2004 and January 19, 2017, they can now file a claim to get their money back by going to FTC.gov/WU or by calling 1-877-FTC-HELP before February 12, 2018.

The refund program follows a settlement with the Western Union Company which agreed to pay $586 million to resolve charges brought by the Federal Trade Commission. The scams include fraudulent lottery prizes, travel or time share scams, family emergency, advanced fee loans, online dating and others.

Filing a claim is free, so consumers should not pay anyone to file a claim on their behalf. No one associated with the claim process will call to ask for consumer’s bank account or credit card info.
