Friday Weather UPDATE : Severe Thunderstorm Watch

  UPDATE # 2: Much of South Florida is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 pm on Friday.  While the Miami-Dade and Broward metro area is not included in the watch (as of 5:30 pm), all of South Florida can expect stormy periods as a squall line moves through during the late afternoon and evening hours of Friday.  Watch out for periods of heavy rain, dangerous lightning, damaging winds, and small hail.  Take care while travelling to and from Good Friday observances and Passover seder tonight.

South Florida is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 pm on Friday.  A squall line will move into western portions of the area late in the afternoon and will move through the east coast metro area early in the evening.  Expect stormy periods with damaging winds, heavy rain, dangerous lightning, and small hail in spots.  Take care when travelling to Good Friday observances or Passover seder tonight.

Donna Thomas has studied hurricanes for two decades. She holds a PhD in history when her experience with Hurricane Andrew ultimately led her to earn a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. Donna spent 15 years at WFOR-TV (CBS4 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale), where she worked as a weather producer with hurricane experts Bryan Norcross and David Bernard. She also produced hurricane specials and weather-related features and news coverage, as well as serving as pool TV producer at the National Hurricane Center during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Donna also served as a researcher on NOAA's Atlantic Hurricane Database Reanalysis Project. Donna specializes in Florida's hurricane history.
