Early morning rain clouds cleared and a threatening forecast didn’t materialize to hamper the Fort Lauderdale Air Show on Saturday afternoon.
The crowd along the stretch of A1A south of Sunrise Blvd., continued to grow as the sky turned a brilliant blue and clouds turned to wisps silhouetting the planes as the spun, twisted, dived and roared back and forth across the beech front.

The early parts of the show featured flyovers by Air Force jets whose pilots simulated approaches to aircraft carrier landings accompanied by music from the movie, Top Gun.
The jets were followed by vintage World War II and Korean War fighter planes that served as a tribute to veterans of all America’s wars, but not to glorify war, the announcer said.
Stunt planes trailing smoke, provided a display of loops and plunges, and a flight of six vintage training planes performed mock combat maneuvers.
The Fort Lauderdale Air Show continues Sunday from noon until 3:30 p.m.
