South Florida will enjoy the weather this Memorial Day, but we’ll also pause to remember the real meaning of the holiday. After a warm start, Monday will bring plenty of sun and a few clouds — perfect for any gathering. Highs on Memorial Day will be near 90 degrees.

Yesterday, Miami hit 98F, highest at Miami outside of meteorological summer (June, July, August). Old record: 97F from Sep 8, 1987.

memorial dayTuesday will feature more of the same — good sun and a few clouds at times. Highs on Tuesday will be near the 90 degree mark again.

Wednesday will bring more clouds into the mix, but we’ll see plenty of sun as well. Wednesday’s highs will be near 90 degrees.

Faith Based Events

A few early showers will be around on Thursday, and we could see a storm or two in the morning hours. Then the day will feature a mix of sun and clouds — with a few afternoon storms, especially inland. Thursday’s highs will be near 90 degrees.

Early showers will be back on Friday, followed by sun, clouds, and a few afternoon storms. Highs on Friday will be near 90 degrees once again.

Donna Thomas has studied hurricanes for two decades. She holds a PhD in history when her experience with Hurricane Andrew ultimately led her to earn a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. Donna spent 15 years at WFOR-TV (CBS4 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale), where she worked as a weather producer with hurricane experts Bryan Norcross and David Bernard. She also produced hurricane specials and weather-related features and news coverage, as well as serving as pool TV producer at the National Hurricane Center during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Donna also served as a researcher on NOAA's Atlantic Hurricane Database Reanalysis Project. Donna specializes in Florida's hurricane history.
