This Denim ‘Belt’ Is Confusing, and Also $400 (Video)

Denim belt

Fashion is all about pushing boundaries, and one thing’s for sure: this “denim belt” is definitely pushing it. Buzz60’s Nathan Rousseau Smith has more.

There have been some truly memorable entries to the Weird Denim Hall of Fame in recent months, from “bare butt” to “detachable” jeans—but the latest example, from streetwear label Unravel Project, might take the cake (for now). Introducing the “denim waist belt,” first spotted by the New York Post, which is, quite simply, just the waistband of a pair of jeans that retails for $405.

In case you were wondering (hoping?), there’s no additional context to this garment, which is currently being sold on Net-a-Porter. “In the resort ’18 presentation, Unravel Project used denim belts to nip in the waist of its slouchy and oversize pieces,” the product description reads. “Designed to appear like it’s been sliced from the top of your favorite jeans, this faded blue version has frayed edges and exposed pockets. It looks even cooler with a slim leather strap over the top.”

To be fair, it does look pretty cool styled on top of an oversize sweatshirt. See how it’s styled on the Net-a-Porter website.
