On January 23, contents from the Kennedy family estate in Palm Beach will be on the auction block at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers. As an important headquarters for the Kennedy Administration, the home was famously named the “Winter White House.”

This historic collection has been consigned by Mr. and Mrs. John Castle who purchased the home and much of its contents from the Kennedy family in 1995.

A total of 153 lots will be offered from the home where John F. Kennedy left for war, recovered from his wartime efforts, penned Profiles in Courage, interviewed cabinet members and enjoyed intimate family holidays.

Furniture will be sold from the home’s cabinet room where important presidential meetings and appointments occurred. Favored armchairs from this room will be offered in their original upholstered form.

The home was host to significant press conferences, especially staged in front of its iconic front door, in the west loggia or within the home’s living room. The historic conference announcing President Kennedy’s cabinet was delivered at the home.

The Leslie Hindman Auctioneers catalogue documents some of these important events and the objects up for sale.

Historic photos of the home’s front door show two concrete planters that will be included in the sale as well as Venetian mirrors, a gilt metal and glass table and numerous decorative items shown in an interview with Rose Kennedy. The iconic photo taken by Bob Davidoff of the First Family on Easter Sunday will be sold.

“This collection is a historically priceless treasure. It is a direct link to America’s mythic “royal family” and to our most popular and admired modern president,” said Doyle.

The preview will be open to the public beginning Friday, January 15 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Bidders may participate in the saleroom, on the phone or on one of two online bidding platforms.
