Clouds and Showers, Watching the Tropics

  Here at home, Friday features cloudy skies, breezy conditions, and periods of showers and storms.  Look for an increasing risk of dangerous rip currents at the Gulf beaches on Friday, with an elevated rip current to remain through the weekend.  Highs on Friday will be in the upper 80s.

Saturday will be cloudy and stormy, especially in the western part of our area.  Look for gusty winds and periods of heavy rain from late on Friday through Saturday.  An isolated tornado is possible.  Saturday’s highs will be in the mid 80s.

Sunday will be another cloudy day with passing showers and storms.  Sunday’s highs will be mostly in the mid 80s.

Faith Based Events

Monday will feature good sun, clouds at times, and a few quick showers.  Monday’s highs will be in the upper 80s.

Tuesday’s forecast includes good sun and a few clouds and passing showers.  Highs on Tuesday will be in the upper 80s.

We’re watching what is still Potential Tropical Cyclone # 16 as of early Friday morning.  It doesn’t yet have a closed circulation but it is expected to become a  tropical or subtropical storm on Friday as it accelerates across the Gulf of Mexico.  At 5 am, Potential TC # 16 was located near 24.3 North, 92.5 West, and was moving northeast at 14 miles per hour.  Maximum sustained winds were 40 miles per hour.

A tropical storm warning is up from Yankeetown, Florida to the Alabama/Mississippi border.  A storm surge warning is in effect from Indian Pass, Florida to Clearwater Beach.  The main impacts from this system will be windy conditions, heavy rains, and possibly isolated tornadoes from late on Friday through Saturday, with the worst of the weather expected to be north of our area.

She holds a PhD in history when her experience with Hurricane Andrew ultimately led her to earn a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. Donna spent 15 years at WFOR-TV (CBS4 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale), where she worked as a weather producer with hurricane experts Bryan Norcross and David Bernard. She also produced hurricane specials and weather-related features and news coverage, as well as serving as pool TV producer at the National Hurricane Center during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Donna also served as a researcher on NOAA's Atlantic Hurricane Database Reanalysis Project. Donna specializes in Florida's hurricane history.
