Chilly Start, Strong Sun

image5South Florida got off to a chilly start Monday, even as we get a reminder that hurricane season isn’t over yet. After morning lows in the 50s, Monday will feature lots of sun, a few clouds on the cool breeze, and highs topping out in the mid to upper 70s.

 

 

image6Tuesday will begin on the cool side, with lows mostly in the 50s with a few low 60s at the coast. Then the day will bring lots of sun, maybe a few clouds at times, and highs in the upper 70s.

Faith Based Events

Wednesday will be a nice mix of sun and clouds, and highs will approach the 80 degree mark.

Thanksgiving will include sides of sun and clouds with the turkey, and highs will be near 80 degrees. A front approaches late in the day, so look for some passing showers late in the afternoon and in the evening.

Sun and clouds will be around on Friday, along with highs near 80 degrees.

090409w5_nl_smTropical Depression # 16 formed early Monday in the southwestern Caribbean. At 5 am Monday, TD # 16 was located near 11.5 North, 79.4 West, and had maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour. While it’s stationary now, it is forecast to strike the Honduran or Nicaraguan coasts as a strong storm or minimal hurricane.

Donna Thomas has studied hurricanes for two decades. She holds a PhD in history when her experience with Hurricane Andrew ultimately led her to earn a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. Donna spent 15 years at WFOR-TV (CBS4 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale), where she worked as a weather producer with hurricane experts Bryan Norcross and David Bernard. She also produced hurricane specials and weather-related features and news coverage, as well as serving as pool TV producer at the National Hurricane Center during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Donna also served as a researcher on NOAA's Atlantic Hurricane Database Reanalysis Project. Donna specializes in Florida's hurricane history.
