There are many perils to the modern marriage, but international tennis star and Boca Raton resident Chris Evert says she thinks that menopause played a role in the 2006 breakup of her 18-year marriage to Olympian Andy Mill.
“I was going through menopausal stuff that doesn’t get talked about enough — what women go through, you know, at 50ish,” she told Lance Armstrong on his “The Forward” Podcast Tuesday.
She’s right, not many people talk about menopause, which more than 3 million women, and their partners, deal with every year.
Regular symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, irritability and the thinning and drying of vaginal tissues.
The 61-year-old racket champ who hosts a Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic every year didn’t get super deep into those specifics while talking with Armstrong, but she said the hormonal and mood changes had an effect.
“We had a rough couple of years because I married Greg Norman who was Andy‘s friend,” she said.
She and Jupiter Island-resident Norman split after only 15 months of marriage.
She and Mill remain cordial to parent their three sons; Alexander, 24; Nicholas, 22 and Colton, 20.
