WELLINGTON — Bill Gates, the world’s richest man, is going after the ex-neighbor whose house Gates bought last week.
According to an email obtained by Gossip Extra Gates, through his lawyer, is threatening to file a criminal complaint with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office after noticing a custom-made equestrian-themed mailbox is missing from the property he purchased March 24.
But hours after closing on his first purchase last week, a $13.5 million lost at 3060 Mallet Hill Court, Gates started threatening legal action because a $500 mailbox in the shape of a horse is missing.
Said attorney Craig Galle, who represented seller Stuart Roffman: “I find it surprising that the world’s richest man is nickel-and-diming my client over a silly mailbox.”
Roffman, a Wellington developer, did take his mailbox with him.
He’s had it for nearly 20 years and he puts it up on every property he lives on.
Roffman says Gates’ people didn’t say anything after their walk-through.
“They could’ve brought it up at the closing but didn’t,” Roffman says. “They’re SOL. And if Bill pursues this, I’ll sue him.”
Here’s the email that Roffman received at 8 a.m. Saturday from attorney Bob Sorgini, who represented Gates at the closing. It was addressed to Galle:
