Nearly five years after the death of Apple founder Steve Jobs, his famous rivalry with Microsoft founder Bill Gates has been reignited in Wellington — through Jobs’ flesh and blood.
As Gates completed the purchase of an entire street in Palm Beach’s equestrian capital in June, Jobs’ widow bought a sprawling property across from Gates’ guard-gate, Gossip Extra‘s Jose Lambiet writes in today’s Daily Mail Online.
Laurene Powell Gates, an investment banker who married billionaire techie Jobs in 1991 then had three children with the father of the iPhone, quietly bought a 3.5-acre ranch at 13770 Quarter Horse Trail in Wellington in mid-May, according to records.
According to records, she paid $15.3 million – cash, of course.
“She was looking around here for a while,” said developer Stuart Roffman. One of Roffman’s horse ranches was sold to Gates in March when Gates started buying his neighbors’ properties. “She wanted something so that her and Steve’s daughter Eve could practice horse jumping. She ended up not buying mine but she did get the one near Gates.”
