Another Soggy South Florida Day

By Donna Thomas, SouthFloridaReporter.com Meteorologist, Sept. 24, 2015 – Thursday will be yet another soggy day in South Florida, and there isn’t much relief in sight. After some Thursday morning showers and storms, look for building clouds, highs in the upper 80s, and more storms in the afternoon and early evening. Many of these storms will move slowly, so expect some heavy downpours and localized flooding.

image6Friday may not be as wet, but look for passing early showers and storms again in the afternoon, along with highs in the upper 80s. We’ll see some afternoon storms on Saturday, but not as widespread coverage as we’ve seen recently. Highs will be near 90 degrees. More showers and storms will return on Sunday, and highs will be in the upper 80s. An area of showers and storms now in the western Caribbean will move from the Yucatan into the southern Gulf of Mexico early next week, and whether or not it develops, its associated moisture could make the first half of the new workweek quite stormy here in South Florida.

Maximum sustained winds were 40 miles per hour, but Ida could weaken into a depression soon. It continues to be no threat to land. And we’re watching the area of showers and storms that are now in the western Caribbean and will end up in the Gulf. The National Hurricane Center gives that feature a low chance of developing into a depression within the next 5 days.
