One of the last times former Vice President Al Gore was in the area, he was in knee-high boots, wading in dirty sea water covering several streets of Miami Beach and joking that Gov. Rick Scott won’t even meet with scientists to discuss the rising oceans.
The footage of Gore’s visit ended up in his second climate change documentary, 2017’s An Inconvenient Sequel, and made it clear to potential South Florida tourists throughout the world that they could end up with a view of the ocean closer than expected.
Gore, 69, former President Bill Clinton’s veep for two terms through the 1990s, is headed back to Miami for something that won’t make as much noise but still support climate change warriors.
Gore is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Earth Day celebratory Green Gala Awards April 21 at Magic City Studios on NE 4th Avenue in Miami.
