Afternoon Storms Bring Steamy Temps

Afternoon storms will be around South Florida on Sunday, and we’ll see more of them during the week ahead. Look for a few early showers followed by building clouds and developing storms on Sunday afternoon and early evening. Sunday’s highs will be in the steamy low 90s.

afternoon stormsWe’ll see some coastal showers on Monday morning, and the afternoon features widespread storms, especially inland. Monday’s highs will be near 90 degrees.

Showers and storms are also in the forecast for Tuesday, along with highs in the low 90s.

Rain chances go down slightly on Wednesday, but afternoon storms will pop up in spots as highs reach the low 90s.

More widespread storms and early showers are back on Thursday, as highs once again hit the low 90s.

afternoon stormsIn the tropics, an area of disturbed weather off Florida’s northern Gulf coast is bringing plenty of rain to the region. The National Hurricane Center gives it a low chance of developing into a depression over the next few days.

Elsewhere, an area of disturbed weather north of the Dominican Republic has a low chance of developing over the next five days as it moves northward.

Donna Thomas has studied hurricanes for two decades. She holds a PhD in history when her experience with Hurricane Andrew ultimately led her to earn a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. Donna spent 15 years at WFOR-TV (CBS4 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale), where she worked as a weather producer with hurricane experts Bryan Norcross and David Bernard. She also produced hurricane specials and weather-related features and news coverage, as well as serving as pool TV producer at the National Hurricane Center during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Donna also served as a researcher on NOAA's Atlantic Hurricane Database Reanalysis Project. Donna specializes in Florida's hurricane history.
