AccuWeather hurricane experts have released a Tropical Eye Path™ track for Tropical Depression 2, which has developed in the northeastern Gulf and could bring flash-flooding and waterspouts to the region across the Gulf region and into Texas through Saturday.
The depression is expected to make landfall in southeast Louisiana on Wednesday, July 22.
“This is a system we have been monitoring all week. AccuWeather designated a Tropical Rainstorm over the weekend and issued its forecast track this morning,” said AccuWeather Expert Meteorologist Tyler Roys. “Tropical systems can bring dangerous rainfall, flash flooding, and other hazardous impacts regardless of whether they receive an official designation.”
AccuWeather hurricane experts are forecasting heavy rain and flood risks associated with the tropical depression, which could further organize into a tropical storm and bring gusty winds and storm surge.

What AccuWeather Experts are Tracking:
- Heavy rain is already occurring across portions of northern and western Florida this weekend before expanding into other areas of the Gulf Coast.
- AccuWeather experts expect this tropical depression to strengthen into a tropical storm over the course of the day on Monday, July 20 over the very warm waters of the northeastern Gulf.
- AccuWeather experts forecast wide-spread rainfall of 2-4 inches from southern Florida through the central coast of Texas. Some localized areas will receive 4-8 inches, with an AccuWeather StormMax™ of 15 inches.
- AccuWeather hurricane experts are also monitoring a westward trend that could bring the heavy rainfall into the Texas Hill Country. Given the catastrophic flooding last week, it will not take much rainfall for flash flooding to be a concern.
- The primary impacts are expected to be heavy rain, localized flash flooding, travel delays and road closures. Rainfall could also provide beneficial drought relief across parts of the Florida Panhandle and lower Mississippi Valley.
- There will be an increased risk of dangerous rip currents and waterspouts along portions of the northeastern Gulf Coast.
