Melissa Moves Through the Bahamas (Video)

Hurricane Melissa emerged from the Cuban coast late Wednesday morning and is now tracking through the Bahamas.  People in the southeastern and central Bahamas can expect hurricane force winds, flooding rain, and deadly storm surge through Wednesday evening.

At 2 pm Wednesday, Melissa was about 110 miles south-southeast of the central Bahamas and 955 miles southwest of Bermuda.  Maximum sustained winds were 100 miles per hour, and Melissa was moving northeast at 15 miles per hour.

There is now a hurricane warning for Bermuda, as Melissa accelerates northeastward.  Melissa’s closest approach to Bermuda is expected to be Thursday night or early Friday morning.
