WASHINGTON — On Sunday, President Donald Trump issued a pointed warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying he may authorize the transfer of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine if Moscow does not move toward ending its war.

Speaking aboard Air Force One as he traveled to Israel, Trump told reporters that supplying Tomahawks would be a “step up” in military aid and one he might relay directly to Putin.  He emphasized that while no decision is final, he was seriously considering the option.

Trump said that during a recent call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he discussed the missile option, framing it as a response to continued Russian attacks — especially on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which Moscow has targeted ahead of winter.

The Kremlin responded with concern, warning that such a move would represent a serious escalation and could damage U.S.-Russia relations.  Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that deep-strike weapons pose “extreme concern.”

Analysts see this as a shift in Trump’s tone toward Russia, moving from diplomacy toward coercive pressure.  Ukraine, for its part, has maintained it would use the weapons only against military targets.

As Putin and Trump continue to navigate a fraught geopolitical landscape, the threat of Tomahawk deployment sharply raises the risks in a conflict already marked by soaring tensions.
