WEST PALM BEACH — Michael McAuliffe, the former Palm Beach County State Attorney who resigned his public office in 2012 to go to work for Palm Beach billionaire Bill Koch‘s Oxbow Corporation, is no longer working at the West Palm Beach-based energy company, Gossip Extra has learned.
McAuliffe’s last day as general counsel of the mining and oil business was Monday, according to a source close to McAuliffe.
He was given a few minutes to clean his office and was spotted being escorted from the company’s headquarters off Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard.
By Tuesday, McAuliffe’s biography disappeared from the list of executives on company’s website with no explanation.
We reached out to an Oxbow official for comment but have yet to hear from him. We also called McAuliffe but he hasn’t returned the call.
What happened? Office politics!
We’re told McAuliffe was busted by Koch while trying to deal directly with the Oxbow board of directors without telling Koch.
It didn’t sit well with the billionaire, who famously rewards loyalty.
McAuliffe’s departure comes just months after Gossip Extra reported exclusively that McAuliffe was considering a run for the U.S. Congress.
We’re told Koch, the lesser known brother of Tea Party cash machines Charles and David Koch, had no idea his general counsel was exploring a run until he read it in your favorite website.
And now that he’s looking for a job, McAuliffe may be re-considering a run for political office as a democrat.
The rumor in the county’s political circles is that McAuliffe is now eyeing a seat as judge.
McAuliffe is married to newly-appointed federal judge Robin Rosenberg, who toils in criminal court in Fort Pierce.
