By Donna Thomas, SouthFloridaReporter.com Meteorologist, Jan. 1, 2016 – A warm first day of 2016 is on tap for South Florida, but cooler and wetter weather is on the way. But Friday will begin with a muggy morning (and some early fog in some inland spots) and then the afternoon features some passing showers on the breeze, a moderate risk of dangerous rip currents, and highs in the mid 80s.
Saturday will be cloudier and showers will increase as the front approaches, and highs will top out in the low 80s.
Sunday will be cloudy, rainy, and cooler, with morning lows in the 60s and afternoon highs in the upper 70s as the front lingers.
That pesky front will finally clear the area early Monday, and we’ll notice the changes, with a bit of drier air and highs only reaching the mid 70s.
But moisture will work its way in quickly on Tuesday, and winds will pick up as well. Look for morning lows ranging from the mid 50s to the low 60s on Tuesday, and afternoon temperatures will just reach the mid 70s on day with showers and a few storms. The rain will linger into Wednesday as a gradual warming trend begins.
